The Virtual Library: Downloadable Books, Music & Magazines
Flipster
Access your favorite digital magazines with this magazine service from EBSCO Information Services. Magazines can be downloaded to Android™ and Apple® phones and tablets, and to Kindle Fire tablets for offline reading.
Users can browse magazines by category as well as perform searches for specific periodicals. An online newsstand provides a carousel of the most recent issues, as well as a carousel of all issues, allowing for quick access to magazines. The table of contents contains links for quick access to articles of interest, and links within magazines open in separate tabs. In addition, there is an option to zoom in and out for a more comfortable reading experience.
Freegal Music
Freegal Music, the free-and-legal music-download service for Library patrons, just got better. Users may download five songs per week and stream for three hours per day. They can also create personal playlists or listen to pre-selected playlists.
There are 18 million songs from which to choose.
Mobile apps are available for Android, Apple, and Kindle Fire devices.
JSTOR
JSTOR is a digital library of academic content in many formats and disciplines. The collections include top peer-reviewed scholarly journals as well as respected literary journals, academic monographs, research reports from trusted institutes, and primary sources.

Nassau Digital Doorway
A service of OverDrive, this site provides access to downloadable, digital ebooks, audio books, and magazines. Library patrons can download bestselling, popular, and classic eBooks and audiobooks to a PC or Mac computer or to a compatible eReader or digital-audio player, including Kindle, Nook, Android, iPad, iPod, MP3, iPhone, and most other mobile devices. The checkout period is 14 days, at the end of which the loan expires; there are no overdues. If the book is not in high demand, the loan can be renewed.
Download digital magazines through the Libby app or view them in a web browser. Magazines may be checked out for 21 days and are renewable. Magazine checkouts do not count toward a patron’s maximum number of checkouts on Overdrive.
The legacy OverDrive app was discontinued on May 1, 2023. OverDrive app users who have not yet made the switch need to change over to the Libby app to continue enjoying digital books through Nassau Digital Doorway.
Libby is now available to download from the Amazon Appstore. Going forward, users with Amazon Fire tablets should download Libby directly from the Amazon Appstore instead of manually sideloading the app directly from Overdrive. Alternatively, Kindle users can use the browser form of the Libby app, or use the “Read now with Kindle” option on the Nassau Digital Doorway site. Fire tablet users who already have the OverDrive app installed can continue to use it, but it is no actively supported.
Users with OverDrive’s Libby APK on their Fire tablet can continue to use that version. To switch to the Amazon Appstore version of the app, follow these steps. Note: Users who switch from the APK version to the Amazon Appstore version of Libby may lose their Libby timeline activity, search history, and app customizations. They will not lose their loans, holds, or tags.
