The Ghosts of Rancho Espanto, by Adrianna Cuevas (Grades 2-6) (Supernatural) Rafa goes to work on a Rancho Espanto as punishment for a prank gone wrong, where he discovers a mystery as inexplicable as it is familiar and ultimately leads to Rafa learning hard truths about himself.

 

Meesh the Bad Demon, by Michelle Lam (Grades 3-6) (Graphic Novel) A “bad” demon, meaning she always sees the good in those around her, 12-year-old Meesh, bullied by the other demons, must save her world when disaster strikes, making surprising new friends and learning to love herself as she searches for her place in the underworld.

The Moth Keeper, by Kay O’Neill (Grades 3-6) (Graphic Novel)
Anya is excited to prove her worth as a Moth-Keeper, a protector of the lunar moths that allow the Night-Lily flower to bloom once a year, but she quickly finds that life as a Moth-Keeper is not what she imagined it would be.

No Matter the Distance, by Cindy Baldwin (Grades 3-7) (Verse)
The unexpected appearance of a dolphin in her backyard creek helps a sixth-grader with cystic fibrosis learn to write her own story.

 

Like a Hurricane, by Jonathan Becotte (Grades 3-7) (Verse)
A young teen’s secret is tearing him apart. He knows he is gay but is afraid to share this knowledge with his parents or his friends. What if they reject him? And what can he do with the feelings he has for his childhood friend when he knows his friend does not feel the same way?

The Rabbit’s Gift, by Jessica Vitalis (Grades 3-7) (Fantasy)
When the delicate balance between the people of a small country and the rabbits who farm and deliver Chou de vie (cabbage-like plants that grow human babies inside) is broken, Quincy rabbit and a young girl must trust each other to restore it.

Finally, Something Dangerous: the One and Onlys and the Case of the Robot Crow, by Doug Cornett (Grades 4-6) (Mystery)
As their town undergoes a shiny new makeover, the One and Onlys discover that something strange is going on when they stumble upon a robot crow and must connect the dots to discover the truth.

Julia and the Shark, by Kiran Millwood Hargrave (Grades 4-6) (Realistic) Julia has followed her mom and dad to live on a remote island for the summer – her dad, for work; her mother, on a determined mission to find the elusive Greenland shark. But when her mother’s obsession threatens to submerge them all, Julia finds herself on an adventure with dark depths and a lighthouse full of hope.
