Follow us on our new Facebook and Instagram pages here:
The Library has created one new centralized Facebook page, which will represent the entire Library. The Library will be archiving our old Facebook pages, which had been separated by department.
Additionally, the Library’s former Tweens and Teens Instagram page is now a general Instagram page also representing the entire Library and has been renamed @gardencityplny.
Follow us on our new Facebook and Instagram pages for updates on new arrivals, exciting events, and tips to make the most of your library experience. Whether you’re a lifelong Library user or just discovering us, there’s something at the Library for you!
If you have any questions, please speak to any Library team member to learn more.

The Garden City Public Library team is preparing to post all the Library’s great events and activities to social media!
Users of the Computer Lab and Young Adult Computer Center can now sign in with just a library-card (or visitor pass) number. The PIN (password) is no longer required.
Of course, any other accounts you may have – e.g., email – will still require your username and password, which are between you and the service provider, and are not under control of the Library.
When you log into the SAM interface, you begin a one hour session. Each user is entitled to a total of three hours of computer use each day. At the end of the hour, if you have not used up three hours and if the utilization of the Computer Lab is below 90%, your session should be extended automatically for another hour.
Please be aware that if the Computer Lab is very busy, you may not get three consecutive hours before your session ends. If the room is full, your session will end after an hour. You can use the remainder of your daily time when a machine becomes available.
Your session will time out after 15 minutes of inactivity. If you have to leave the computer for a short time, point to the End Session button in the lower-right corner of the screen and click on “Lock PC.” That way, your session will remain active until your hour is up, and your privacy will be protected.
The computers will shut down automatically 15 minutes before the Library closes.
To prevent loss of your work and protect your privacy, always:
- Heed the end-of-session warnings,
- Save your work to a USB drive or the cloud,
- Delete any files you have saved or downloaded to the local machine,
- Empty the Recycle Bin,
- Log out of your email account (and any other online accounts) before your session ends.
- Close all windows, and
- Click on “End Session” in the lower-right corner of the screen.
You may use only one computer at a time. You may work quietly with someone who is using the computer next to you, or if space permits, with someone seated next to you who is not using a computer.
Leave the computer on for the next user.
If at all possible, please silence your cell-phone notifications while you are in the Computer Lab. The constant barrage of beeps, rings, and jingles that signal incoming messages is disturbing to other patrons who are attempting to focus on the task at hand.
Cell-phone calls are not permitted in the Computer Lab or anywhere else in the Library except in the foyer and café.
The Garden City Public Library is happy to announce the launch of its email newsletter. Garden City library patrons who have an email address on file will automatically receive a copy of the newsletter. If you wish to opt out, there is a link at the bottom of the newsletter.
If you did not receive a copy and and would like to sign up, please visit the subscription page. Residents of other library districts can also sign up to receive the newsletter in their email.
Microsoft’s venerable web browser, Internet Explorer, is no longer supported by many popular websites, including AOL, gMail, and Yahoo. In fact, Microsoft is replacing it with a new browser called Edge. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera are but three of the alternatives.
Because of the increasing issues of functionality and security that are plaguing Internet Explorer, we have removed the shortcut from the Windows Desktop screen in the Computer Lab. We suggest using either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
For a discussion of some of the problems plaguing Internet Explorer, see:
