cover image of 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants'All I can say is . . . wow! This book, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, is an outstanding book. It is the first book I have ever read written by this author, Ann Brashares.

To sum up the story: in the beginning, we are introduced to a group of friends. They are so close that they call themselves “the sisters.” Next, through a prologue, we learn that these friends all try on a certain pair of pants and find that they are a perfect fit for each of them! They make a set of rules for these jeans and divvy up the time spent with them. Now it’s their first summer apart from each other, and you can probably imagine the difficulty they have, mailing the pants across the world! The friends each have their own sets of drama and learn to cope with it without others being right there to help them.

Without a doubt, I would rate this book 10 out of five stars. I can totally relate to the characters and their situation personally, and I think that most others would agree. I’d have to imagine that most kids my age have spent at least one summer away from their friends, or without seeing them much. The storyline is a unique one as far as young-adult books go, which I like, but as I said, at the same time the concept is extremely relatable, at least for me.

I would recommend this book to people ages 10+ that like realistic fiction books. I especially think that tweens/teens who need a little brightening up should read this. It’s very uplifting because, in the end, the teens restore their friendship. On the front cover of the book, it says “Funny, perceptive, and moving” – USA Today. I believe that those are the best possible three words to describe this book. Enjoy!
