Trustee Chair J. Randolph Colahan

J. Randolph Colahan, Chair of the Garden City Public Library Board of Trustees, has been a Trustee since April, 2002. He has served as Chairman since January, 2007 and previously served as Vice Chair. Randy has lived in Garden City for most of his life. He and his wife Elena have three daughters, Kathryn Schmidt (Erik) in Chicago, IL; Elizabeth in Brooklyn, NY; and Claire in Wilmington, DE.

Professionally, Randy is Executive Vice President and Director of Corporate Accounts for FLM Graphics of Fairfield and Princeton, NJ and New York, NY. Prior to joining FLM Graphics, he was a part owner of two printing firms. He has received numerous industry awards including the PIA Power of Communications Franklin Award in 2004.

Randy is a graduate of Garden City High School and Duke University. He holds an MBA in Corporate Finance from Adelphi University. He served for many years on the Duke University Alumni Admissions Committee and is a past member of the Adelphi University Presidents Advisory Council.

Locally, Randy has been involved in many organizations. He is a past president and vice president of the Estates Property Owners Association and has held many other positions within the organization. He has also been a past president and vice president of the Garden City Centennial Soccer Club and has held many positions within that organization. In addition, he coached numerous intramural and travel girls soccer teams. He is a past director of the TMA, where he co-chaired three Father-Daughter Dances, a past director of the Turkey Trot Race Committee, and a past director of the Friends of Garden City Arts, Parks and Recreation.

Vice Chair Gloria Weinrich

Gloria Weinrich, Vice Chair of the Garden City Public Library Board of Trustees, has been a Trustee since December, 2003. She has served as Vice Chair since 2007. Gloria is a long-time resident of Garden City. Her son Russell now lives in Lake Grove with his wife Betsy Thompson Weinrich and their sons Austin and Troy.

Professionally, Gloria has been an educator who has always been active in the field of education as an innovator and motivator. She has written a syllabus for social studies, was on the committee to write the first state charter in education for SUNY at Old Westbury, and has mentored the student teacher program in the Carle Place Schools. She was the first vice president of the Carle Place Teacher’s Association and the first president of the Carle Place Retired Teacher’s group. She continued as president and vice president for many years and is presently secretary and historian for that organization.

Upon graduation from Washington Irving High School in NYC, Gloria attended Hofstra University, where she received a BA in History and MA in Education. She went on to continue her education in both Education and other fields. Gloria was president of the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, an organization of exceptional educators, where she successfully conducted a NY statewide conference. Since 1997 she has been listed in Who’s Who of American Women and in 2010 she received the “Woman of Distinction” award from the New York State Assembly.

Trustee Lola Nouryan

As a world traveler who has visited all of the continents, Gloria has brought travel programs to many local organizations and schools. She is active in senior affairs and is presently a member of the Senior Advisory Committee as well as on the board of other groups. In addition, she is an 18-year member of the Board of the Western Property Owners Association. Gloria’s activities have been wide spread. She has also worked with the Friends of the Garden City Library both on the Board and as a “bookworm.” Gloria continues to conduct her well-received book discussion groups for the Friends of the Garden City Library.

Lola Nouryan is the most recent Trustee to be appointed to the Board of the Garden City Public Library. She and her husband, Robert Nouryan, have been long time residents of Garden City. Their three children, Laura, Chris, and Ted, are graduates of the Garden City Public Schools.

Professionally, Lola is a psychologist. She received a BA from Adelphi University, and an MA and PhD in psychology from Hofstra University, where she currently teaches part time in the department of Psychology. She was employed as a School Psychologist for the Rockville Centre Public Schools for 25 years. Lola has published research in the area of psychology and law and has presented papers at numerous conferences nationally and internationally.
