When you log into the SAM interface, you begin a one hour session. Each user is entitled to a total of three hours of computer use each day. At the end of the hour, if you have not used up three hours and if the utilization of the Computer Lab is below 90%, your session should be extended automatically for another hour.
Please be aware that if the Computer Lab is very busy, you may not get three consecutive hours before your session ends. If the room is full, your session will end after an hour. You can use the remainder of your daily time when a machine becomes available.
Your session will time out after 15 minutes of inactivity. If you have to leave the computer for a short time, point to the End Session button in the lower-right corner of the screen and click on “Lock PC.” That way, your session will remain active until your hour is up, and your privacy will be protected.
The computers will shut down automatically 15 minutes before the Library closes.
To prevent loss of your work and protect your privacy, always:
- Heed the end-of-session warnings,
- Save your work to a USB drive or the cloud,
- Delete any files you have saved or downloaded to the local machine,
- Empty the Recycle Bin,
- Log out of your email account (and any other online accounts) before your session ends.
- Close all windows, and
- Click on “End Session” in the lower-right corner of the screen.
You may use only one computer at a time. You may work quietly with someone who is using the computer next to you, or if space permits, with someone seated next to you who is not using a computer.
Leave the computer on for the next user.
